Integration is a very complicated issue in the current multicultural society. Ranging from large groups such as ethnic and cultural groups to small groups in schools and companies, we face the problem of “how to get along” every day. In what ways should we coexist in all these different “relationships”? How should we tolerate, consider, and understand?

Through a fable of two ethnic groups living together, this play hopes to provide a platform for parents and children to hold discussions, whether superficially or in-depth. A child’s world may be relatively simple, but the understanding of “individual and group” and “minority and majority” is a very important experience in their growth and development.

The armadillo father and son enjoyed the exhibition “The Bubble Tea Incident”, which displayed many odd objects, including housing models of the “New Utopia” residential area, huge bags, huge muzzles, some slideshows, and documentaries. It seemed like the incidents that happened before Little Armadillo was born were related to Father Armadillo. Little Armadillo thought his father’s “legendary animal friends” were bad people, but unexpectedly, Father Armadillo told a different version of the history.

After fleeing from the natural disaster, the homeless Utopia Zoo clan arrived at the Armadillo Kingdom and pleaded for the King to take them in. In order to gain permanent residency, they tried hard to express their goodwill, hoping to impress the King. In return, the King also responded kindly and offered them jobs. However, to ensure the safety of the people of the Armadillo Kingdom, the Utopia Zoo clan has to follow some “rules.” Everything seemed to end up being perfect until an incident happened in front of the bubble tea shop. One day, after the Utopia Zoo clan finished their grueling day’s work, they thought of having a cup of the sweet bubble tea to soothe their weariness. However, a misunderstanding panicked the people of the Armadillo Kingdom, which eventually lead to the clan’s death…

DAVID CHESKY: The Mice War

The Mice War Returns! When David Chesky’s opera for children, The Mice War, was presented at the Experimental Theater in Taipei in 2009, it was described by Zhao Ziqiang as “a wonderful, imaginative journey.” And indeed it is. In The Mice War, American composer David Chesky ̶ pianist, producer, arranger, and co-founder of the audiophile label Chesky Records ̶ relates the story of a peaceful mouse named Albert who is caught up in an absurd war between Blue Mice, who eat pink cheese and red mice who eat yellow cheese. This 80-minute stage work, presented in Mandarin here in Taipei, has also been seen to huge success in Polish, English, Italian and Portuguese. Chesky’s association with the NSO goes back to the 2008-2009 season, when he was the orchestra’s composer-in-residence.

As its arrival to the valley ,It disturbed the daily life of the resident animals ,thus the little horse was treated with hostility in the group. As a natural disaster left the animals displaced , they escaped from the disaster, but then found themselves facing the issue of integration as they arrived in a foreign environment.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet .” Stephen Hawking

How long haven’t you looked upon the stars?
How long haven’t you  admired the pretty, glowing moon?

The hustle and bustle of the city
Distracted us by the dazzling daily life
Thus we forgot
Forgot the tranquil sky upon the city lights
Where the stars , been shimmering hundreds of millions of years
hold the heart of universe

Count to 3 , Let’s travel to outer space.

Every memory is a gift.
We fold them neatly and place them in a suitcase.
And we take them with us.
When we’re tired, we open the suitcase.
Then we unfold our memories, and find happiness within.

Flying Group Theatre created this new work which features an old, over-sized suitcase symbolizing a richly lived life. The suitcase is filled with treasured memories in the form of scenes of birth, old age, illness and death, which provides constancy for the traveler by protecting his most cherished possessions. Clothing in the suitcase seems to be labeled with fragments of a life, and layer upon layer of items are strung together to form a life’s many circumstances.
